Mobility of Cooperating Objects

Objectives

Mobility has deep influences on the cooperation of Cooperating Objects. It deeply affects the main characteristics of COs focusing on different levels of cooperation between COs.

 

The general objective of the MCO cluster is to research on specific issues related to the mobility of Cooperating Objects in dynamic environments at different levels. Many factors should be considered when designing mobility management mechanisms for CO systems: velocity, obstacles, radio propagation models, network scale, network density and network partitioning. Supporting nodes mobility should not impact other QoS metrics in a way that CO application requirements are respected. Also, mobile COs interacting and cooperating in the same physical space involves several topics related to coordination and cooperation paradigms, reliability and safety. Furthermore, security and safety requirements impose the consideration of faulty or malicious COs in the same space.

 

Mobility has deep influences on the cooperation of Cooperating Objects. The MCO cluster tackles mobility issues among COs at different levels.

- Communications of mobile COs,

- Middleware for mobility of COs,

- Cooperation of mobile COs for sensing and perception,

- Cooperation of mobile COs for decision and actuation.

 

Research topics

The main research areas of interest in MCO for year 2 are listed:

  • Communication for highly mobile environments
  • Middleware for mobile COs
  • Cooperation of mobile COs for sensing and perception
  • Integrity, authenticity and confidentiality in multivehicle cooperation
  • Hard cooperation for coordination and control
  • Distributed methods for spatial and temporal coordination of mobile objects
  • Fully distributed mission planning and task allocation

 

The work carried out in the second year includes the following activities:

- joint research in the MCO areas,

- integration and experimentation of techniques in the Integrated Testbed,

- analysis of collaboration with other CONET clusters.

Achieved results

Below are the main results of MCO in year 2:

  • Project PLANET (FP7-ICT-2009-5) involving 5 MCO partners
  • 2 PhD Theses (both with Awards) and 1 MsD Thesis:

            - Award "2010 CONET Best Industrial Thesis Award"
            - Award "Best PhD Thesis in Aeuronautics", Univ. Sevilla

  • 18 publications (6 joint and 12 individual)
  • One MCO integrated reseach and experimentation in the Integrated Testbed
  • Several joint experiments
