Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM)
The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM) is the oldest and largest of the Spanish Technical Universities and covers most Engineering disciplines. UPM has a strong commitment to R&D and Innovation, with more than 200 Research Groups and several Research Institutes and Technological Centres in different knowledge areas. The Ontology Engineering Group (OEG, www.oeg-upm.net), led by Prof. Asunción Gómez-Pérez, has been working on the provision of semantic infrastructure since 1995, and is currently composed of researchers from different fields: Ontological Engineering, Data Integration, Semantic Web and Semantic e-Science.
Some of the most important results of the OEG in the previous areas are: METHONTOLOGY, WebODE and Oyster (in Ontological Engineering); R2O, ODEMapster and EgoIR (in semantic-based data integration); ODESeW and ODESWS (in Semantic Web); and WS-DAIOnt-RDF(S) andODESGS (in Semantic Grid). Besides, the Group has participated or is participating in the following EU IST projects: MKBEEM (IST-1999-10589), OntoWeb (IST-2000-25056), Esperonto (IST-2001-34373), OntoGrid (FP6-511513), NeOn (FP6-027595), SEEMP (FP6-027347), Knowledge Web (FP6-507482), SemsorGrid4Env (FP6-223913), ADMIRE (FP7-215024), DynaLearn (FP7-231526), SEALS (FP7-238975), SCALUS (FP7-), MONNET (FP7-248458), PlanetData (FP7-257641) and Wf4Ever (FP7-270192).
Dr. Oscar Corcho is an Associate Professor at Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. Previously, he has worked at the University of Manchester and iSOCO. He graduated in Computer Science from UPM in 2000, and received the third Spanish award in computer science from the Spanish Government. He obtained his MSc in Software Engineering from UPM in 2001, and his PhD in Artificial Intelligence in 2004. He has also worked as a Marie Curie research fellow at the University of Manchester and as an R&D manager at iSOCO. His research activities include ontology languages and tools, metadata management in the Semantic Web and Semantic e-Science. He is participating at the EU FP6 IST project SemsorGrid4Env (FP6-223913) and ADMIRE (FP7-215024), and is leading UPM’s work at the PlanetData network of excellence. He has also participated in the HALO project (funded by Vulcan, Inc.), and in the following EU IST projects from FP5 and FP6: Esperonto (IST-2001-34373), DIP (FP6-507483), HOPS (IST-2002-507967), SWWS (IST-2001-37134), OntoWeb (IST-2000-25056), OntoGrid (FP6-511513) and Knowledge Web (IST-2003-507482). He has also been a research visitor at KMI (Open University) and SMI (Stanford University). He has published two books, over 40 international journal and conference/workshop papers, and reviews papers in many conferences, workshops and journals. He has been part of the organisation committees of some of the most relevant conferences in the ontologies and Semantic Web community, such as EKAW2002 and EKAW2010, ESWC2006, ESWC2008 and ESWC2010, ISWC2009 and he will be the programme chair of KCAP2011.
